Buffalo Sabres left wing Miroslav Satan is no stranger to the international hockey tournaments. Satan logged hefty ice time for Slovak National Team and became one of most prolific goalgetters while wearing his whitebluered of Team Slovakia sweater in 1994 Olympic games in Norway. Satan scored nine goals, with two hat tricks, in eight games played in the tournament.Born in Topolcany, Slovakia, Miro Satan now 26, 186 cm and 89 kg, got his pro hockey start first playing for local HC Topolcany in 199192 season. At first playing in the juniors, he tallied 30 goals and added 22 helpers in just 31 games. Graduating to the senior division in the same season, Satan added 3 more points 2+1 in last nine games. When he turned 18, instead of reporting to the compulsory army service for two years, Miro enlisted his services with highly successful army’s Dukla Trencin for 199293 and 9394 seasons. There, Satan started to form into a strong forward with a fine touch around the net, his quick hands and natural hockey talent expanded into a feared goal scorer. His talent caught an eye of the NHL scouts and Satan was drafted in 1993 NHL Entry Draft by Edmonton Oilers, as their 6th choice and 111th overall. But Miro was not to come to North America just yet. Satan’s 32 goals and 16 assists in 9394 campaign earned him a spot on the Slovak Olympic team in Norway. While in Dukla, Satan played alongside young Pavol Demitra now St. Louis Blues and was his roommate on the road. Even though they play against each other now in the NHL, they remained great friends for past 18 years now.
